What so bad about feeling good in business?

  1. Posted By: Fiona

Feeling good at work. What’s so bad about that?

I recently made a presentation on Conscious Capitalism to a local community group. At the end one of the attendees asked “This feel-good stuff is all very well, but what happens when you have to downsize to survive?”

While his question was sincere and a reflection of a commonly-held paradigm, it contains two assumptions I’d like to challenge:

1. Feeling “good” at work is unimportant, and

2. Downsizing is an inevitable response to an economic downturn

I think feeling “good” at and about your work isn’t just important, it’s vital.

Don’t you want to be clear about how your work makes a meaningful difference and contributes positively to everyone affected by it? Wouldn’t you love to work with colleagues who feel the same way? Wouldn’t that make you feel “good”? Wouldn’t you do fantastic work from that place? And wouldn’t you have a more successful business as a result?

Bring on a world where everyone feels “good” at work. That’s where I want to live.

(More later on downsizing as a response to a downturn…)

Like some help creating a business in which you can feel good?   Reach out
